10 Ways to Kill Unitarian Christianity

Unitarianism had been very popular in the United States of America. In fact, a number of presidents were themselves unitarian Christians. What happened? How did Unitarianism implode? As the UCA continues grow in numbers and influence, Unitarianism is once again on the rise. How can we avoid making the same mistakes our American forbearers made? Join Dr. Dale Tuggy, as he warns of ten ways to kill unitarian Christianity.

Christian Centered Counseling

Christian Centered Counseling (CCC) is a team of online counselors who believe that the Bible offers the guidance we need for our lives, including the solutions to our problems. Life is hard and there are times when we all need a little help. Counselors come alongside those struggling to help them through the difficulties of life. CCC believes those seeking counseling can find freedom and healing so that they can grow in sanctification.

Counseling is bible-based, spirit-led, 100% online, and confidential. Furthermore, CCC is a biblical unitarian organization, which means their counselors understand and sympathize with the exclusion and persecution unique to those who believe the Father alone is God and Jesus is his human Messiah.

Don’t suffer in silence. Get a loving, external perspective. Reach out to Christian Centered Counseling today. Visit their website at christiancenteredcounseling.org or email them at christiancenteredcounseling@gmail.com and begin your journey of healing and wholeness.

Church of God General Conference

Helping Churches. Spreading truth.

Founded in 1921, the Church of God General Conference (COGGC) is a denomination of churches active in North America, Central America, South America, the Caribbean, Asia, and Africa. Their largest concentrations of churches are in Mozambique (400), Malawi (100), and the United States (80). COGGC provides resources and support to pastors, churches, youth, missions, and the Atlanta Bible College. For more than a century now, they have provided a stable and experienced platform to help individuals and churches spread the truth about the kingdom gospel and the name of Jesus Christ.

Pastors

The Church of God (COG) provides pastoral education and training through the Atlanta Bible College. Once prospective ministers graduate, they participate in a hands-on internship program, serving at a local church. Next they apply for licensing, which involves a comprehensive process that takes into account the applicant’s personal history, doctrinal beliefs, references, and the recommendation of their mentor. Once getting a license and finding a church to serve in, pastors are encouraged to join the annual ministers’ conference, the monthly prayer group via Zoom, and the Facebook group for mutual encouragement. Lastly, the ministerial leadership team provides a “pastor’s pastor” to provide individual confidential counseling.

Churches

Over more than a century of ministry, the COG has always and continues to provide a wide range of resources to member churches. These include low-interest loans, funding for building projects, church health surveys, and free background checks for volunteers. Churches also benefit from literary resources, including biblical articles (Restitution Herald), ministry updates (Progress Journal), Sunday school lessons (Adult Quarterly), evangelism tracts, as well as several in-house published books. Additionally, churches can participate in a wide range of events, including Christian Workers’ Seminar, FUEL, and General Conference. Also, the COG keeps track of the history of their churches and noteworthy individuals over the years through maintaining archives, holding the annual Heritage Conference, and publishing a biographical encyclopedia.

Youth

The most exciting week of the year for youth in the COG is FUEL. Held at Manchester University in Indiana, FUEL is a high-energy event with 200 teens and youth workers. Campers participate in sermons, classes, worship, sports, and lots of other activities. Counselors meet with the youth a couple of times each day to develop relationships and mentor them. In the fall and winter, youth can attend reFUEL and the Young Adult Getaway. Additionally, the Atlanta Bible College invites high-school students to stay on campus and attended classes during their annual invitational.

Missions

The missionary agency of the COGGC is called Lord’s Harvest International (LHI). The organization supports churches and individuals in ten countries around the world. Some of these are war-torn, others are afflicted with chronic governmental corruption, and still others have oppressive policies towards biblical Christianity. LHI sends missionaries on short-term trips, provides resources to build churches, helps with humanitarian support, and supplies translated literary resources, including Bibles, books, and tracts. For more information about LHI, visit lhicog.com.

Atlanta Bible College

Currently there are two campuses in Georgia: (1) at McDonough the main building serves as the hub for English-speaking in-person and online instruction, (2) at Johns Creek the Korean extension provides classes in the Korean language. The goal is both to train future pastors as well as educate anyone who wants to know more about the Bible and Christianity. Students can earn a one year foundation certificate, an Associate’s degree, and/or a Bachelor’s degree with focuses in Bible, theology, or missions. Apply online or check out the fall semester schedule.

If you would like to learn more about the Church of God General Conference, visit them at COGGC.org. You can sign up to receive the Restitution Herald either digitally or in the mail for free. If you would like to donate to the work they are doing, you can that here.

Personal Note

I would be remiss if I didn’t include a note about how much the COG has benefited me personally. Although I’m part of an independent ministry, I have benefited immensely from attending COG events, graduating from their Bible college, and associating with their pastors. The organization strikes the balance between providing support to those both inside and outside the denomination without controlling individuals or groups. The executive director, Seth Ross, is a competent leader who genuinely seeks to serve God courageously and authentically. I’m excited to see what the Church of God does now that they have begun their second century of ministry!

Unitarian Torch

The Unitarian Torch is the internet’s best place to learn about Hungarian Unitarian Christianity, a group that has survived repeated persecutions since it was founded in 1568 by Ferenc Dávid. He founded it as a restoration of the pure Christianity of Jesus. Surviving mainly in Transylvania, Romania, these Christians have preserved a rich legacy of unitarian sermons and orders of services, hymns, and stories.

The Unitarian Torch website represents Dr. Robert Kokenyesi’s effort to bring this unique group of Christians to the English-speaking world.

The Unitarian Torch’s three main objectives

  1. to serve the English-speaking Hungarian and Transylvanian diaspora by providing them with sermons translated into English
  2. to serve the English-speaking unitarian community by providing them with inspiration by making available orders of services as well as children’s literature (stories)
  3. to raise awareness about the uniqueness of the Transylvania Unitarian Church by explaining the organization of the church, holidays, and other hard-to-come-by aspects of the church

Dr. Kokenyesi is inspired by the example of Hungarian unitarianism’s survival amidst 450 years of enormous religious, economic, and political persecution. He hopes that by bringing this wealth of literature into the English language, many others will learn about this courageous group and likewise find inspiration and illumination.

Looking for a New Twitter Manager

Over the last two years our brother Manasseh has expertly managed the UCA Twitter account. During his tenure he has greatly improved the UCA’s visibility and reach. We’re so thankful for his service and hope to continue the legacy he has begun.

We’re seeking someone to take over the UCA Twitter account and so join us in advancing the truth of unitarian Christianity. Ideally this person would post once per day, showing the world that our organization is alive and active.

Posts can include polls, important scriptures, provocative questions, observations, links to resources, memes, and shared tweets by other unitarian Christians. Direct but kind and friendly interaction with trinitarian Tweeters is encouraged. To get an idea of what kinds of posts we’re looking for, visit our Twitter feed or see a few examples below. Atlanta Bible College

A Biblical Education For Truth Seekers, Steadfast Believers, and Future Leaders

Atlanta Bible College

At Atlanta Bible College (ABC), faith, ministry, and academics collide into a life-changing, educational experience for all. We strive for students to grow their faith and deepen their relationship with God, our Father, who created us and his Son, Christ Jesus, who redeemed us. Students will also be given the opportunity to connect with like-minded believers which facilitates fellowship unlike any other. Most importantly, students at Atlanta Bible College will learn how to equip themselves to follow the path that God lays out for anyone who chooses to believe in the Messiah.

https://www.atlantabiblecollege.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/6-1-e1562949925489.jpg

What I so appreciate about ABC is how they helped me to organize my knowledge of the Bible. Prior to attending, I had a fairly decent knowledge of the Scriptures, having read all the way through once or twice. Sitting in church services and seminars for years had taught me much. In fact, one mentor even questioned what good attending ABC would do for me. So when I came down to Georgia to attend, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Looking back on this 15 years later, I’m so glad I went!

Several huge benefits come to mind. Firstly, my biblical knowledge was like an untamed garden. Sure, I knew a verse here and there, but I didn’t have a very good mental map for how the Bible fit together. Sitting through Old Testament Survey and then New Testament Survey, I was able to see the big picture. I developed a sense for the history of redemption as well as how the prophets fit with the historical books and the epistles fit within Acts.

Taking Basic Bible Doctrine and Systematic Theology helped me immensely as well. Those classes gave me mental shelves on which to put different doctrines so they wern’t a jumbled mess on my mental floor. Learning about categories like soteriology, harmartiology, and ecclesiology expanded my thinking. Approaching theology in a systematic way also helped me to see the dependency and relationship between doctrines.

I could go on and on about how my education at ABC provided me with a welcoming community, introductions to lifelong mentors, and an education I still depend on every day. However, I would leave you with one more benefit that taking college level Bible classes provided me. So much of our church or YouTube education puts little or no responsibility on the student. People are encouraged to sit and listen–and I get that. People are tired from a long day at work or they’re too busy to do homework and write essays. However, at ABC, like any college, the expectations are much higher. You will have homework; you will memorize key information; you will write papers. And to be honest, though writing is hard work, those assignments probably helped me grow more than anything else I did while at ABC.

If you would like to go down to their campus and become a full or part-time student, you can apply to attend here. They’ve also got distance-learning classes you can take from the comfort of your home. Also, check out their Academic Catalog to see what courses they offer and their Academic Calendar to see when classes will begin for next semester.

I’ll leave you with a list of ABC’s objectives. If these sound good to you, you should consider getting in contact with them to figure out how you can become a student at ABC.

  • Know God and His Word (Bible is our middle name!)
  • Seek to have a personal, loving relationship with God.
  • Confidently know the Bible as God’s infallible Word.
  • Understand that God’s Word relates to every area of life (general education, experience).
  • Apply God’s Word
  • Develop a lifestyle that includes personal devotions and regular Bible study, using sound methods in that study.
  • Develop the skills of sound scholarship in both biblical and secular studies, characterized by a spirit of inquiry, research, and creative thinking.
  • Recognize the lordship of Christ and fulfill God’s will personally, vocationally, in attitude, and in deed.
  • Live a life of high moral and spiritual standards at home, in the community, and in church.
  • Communicate God’s Word (Be in ministry!)
  • Determine where the Lord is directing the individual to serve–whether as a layman or in an employed ministry.
  • Carefully evaluate God-given gifts along with accompanying personal talents.
  • Become proficient in methods of communication, leadership, and ministry.
  • Become involved in a lifetime of Christian service.

Have You Subscribed Yet on YouTube?

On March 13, 2020 we launched our first video on YouTube called “What Is the UCA?” Since then we have been releasing a new video each week. Our goal with these explainer videos is twofold:

  1. We want to evangelize Trinitarians and Oneness folks with the truth of who our God and his Son are. So many have never even heard of another way of thinking about Jesus’ identity and we want to change that.
  2. We want to to equip and train unitarian Christians so that they are stronger, better able to teach their friends and children, and prepared to discuss the issue with those who believe differently (whether hostile or friendly).

These videos take a tremendous amount of time and effort to put out so we want to be sure that you take advantage of them. Here are some ideas on how you can help out.

  1. Subscribe to our YouTube channel and turn notifications on (bell icon). This will ensure that you will know when new videos come out.
  2. Share on social media. Whether you use Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or something else, we need your help to get the word out. The more shares each video gets, the more exposure.
  3. Use these as teaching aids. Whether you are teaching your children, leading a Sunday school class, or preaching a sermon about God and Jesus, show these videos to help illustrate your points.
  4. Send in your ideas. If you have suggestions on what would make a great video, please shoot us an email (media@unitarianchristianalliance.org) and we’ll take it into consideration.
  5. Support us financially. We realize that so many of you are already signed up as annual or monthly contributors, and we are very thankful for the support we’ve already received. We are in the process of testing ads on Facebook and YouTube and have seen some promising results. However, we can do so much more if we have adequate funds to help. If you would like to give, please consider upgrading to a Supporting Member. Alternatively, you may make a donation here.

Together we are making a difference. The monotheism of Jesus is a truth whose time has come. Thank you for helping us get the word out and doing your part to share this glorious truth of our one God.

Looking for Video Editors, Graphic Designers, Marketing Helpers

We are reaching out to ask for your help. The UCA social media committee is engaged in producing content to empower alliance members in promoting our shared belief in the one true God and his human son Jesus.

The weekly animated shorts are just the beginning.  But to reach the world with a diversity of content, we need passionate and committed co-laborers.  If you have time and expertise in any of these categories (video editing/production, audio production, social media marketing, generating memes, etc), please email media@unitarianchristianalliance.org and tell us what you would like to help with.

We have such a depth of talent within the UCA, and we want to turn that talent into a chorus of voices through the megaphone of the UCA.

And if your talents lie in other areas, you can help by amplifying the message, through sharing UCA content, and helping to defend our unitarian cause in a Christlike way on social media.

Together, we can spread this truth to the world.  For truly, “it is a truth who’s time has come”!

If you haven’t yet, please join our Facebook group and subscribe to our YouTube channel.

Here’s our latest video to give you an idea of what we’re doing.
